Types of Wig Lace

The reason a lace front wig looks so natural is that the transparent lace mesh hugs the contour of your forehead and disappears against your skin. The hairs that are tied into that mesh then look like they are growing from your head.

But what type of wig is lace is best for your custom wig?

In the video below, Heather talks about the two options we offer here at Custom Wig Company, film and stage grade laces.

If videos aren’t your thing, scroll on for a brief written summary.

Types of Wig Lace

Here at Custom Wig Company, we work with two types of wig lace, stage grade (40 denier) and film grade (20-30 denier)

Stage grade wig lace is what we use for the majority of our wigs and facial hair. That’s because it’s a great intersection of transparency and durability.

Most of our clients are commissioning custom wigs for some type of ‘dress up’ or performance or other presentation use where stage lace meets their needs very well. They are also investing in a custom wig they want to use for years to come, so they need something that can handle long term use.

But for situations where our clients want a finer wig lace front, we do offer a film lace option. Film lace is far finer and thinner than stage grade lace. It is much more discreet and much harder to see, even in very close situations.

So why not use that for every project? Because the thinness that makes it so much more transparent also makes it much more fragile. For many of our clients, it’s simply too delicate for their needs.

Which type of lace is best?

Like most things relating to our custom wigs, the answer is….it depends. There’s not a right or wrong choice, it’s simply a matter of choosing the best option for their individual situation.

The best way to decide is to let us know you’re interested in both options so we can talk with you about your needs and the suitability of the options for your project.
