Wig Supplies
Whether you have one of our custom wigs or a wig you acquired elsewhere, you’re going to need tools and supplies to care for it properly. Having the right wig supplies can make a big difference in how easy it is to care for and style your wig. When it comes to wig care, a few minutes of regular care and maintenance really are worth hours of effort to undo neglect.
This page contains the wig supplies, tools, and products we use and recommend. We offer some of these for sale in our Store. Other are available from retailers like Amazon.com. If you have questions about anything listed here, or a suggestion, we’d love to hear from you.
In addition to our client support services, we’re proud to offer professional wig and beard styling tools, care and maintenance supplies and a selection of wig and beard tapes.

Wig Dryer
When using rollers or other styling methods that use water or water-based products, it’s very important to be able to dry the wig completely. The style will also hold better if you can introduce heat into the drying process.
We use a large cabinet wig dryer when roller setting wigs and beards. But those are a pretty big investment for home wig styling, unfortunately. Here’s a good alternative to speed up drying time and introduce gentle heat. This dryer is efficient, lightweight, and will do a great job drying a single wig or beard at a time. We have one for use during events and it works great. The bonnet is a key component since it allows the hot air to surround the wig.
The best steamer for styling synthetic wigs
If you are styling synthetic wigs, a handheld steamer is the best way to remove wave or steam in curls. We use this lightweight steamer in our studio when we are styling synthetic wigs. It heats up quickly and is the perfect size – not too heavy to hold and not too small to make the job take longer.
The best wig clamps and wig stands
To hold your wig steady during styling, you need a wig clamp or stand. The clamp should have a deep, padded opening and an adjustable head mount.
The most common type of clamp attaches to a table or counter. We sell a sturdy, reliable clamp as part of our Wig Care Kit that’s great for most wig styling and cleaning chores. But if you want a taller, adjustable clamp, this model is excellent. It attaches securely and you can raise and lower the wig head easily.
Canvas Wig and Beard Blocks
When you’re not wearing your wig or beard, you should store it on a head or chin block to help maintain the shape of the foundation and the style. Although styrofoam heads are common, they’re not the best choice for storing or styling custom pieces. They’re simply too small and the wrong shape for most pieces.
Although canvas heads and chins are more expensive, they last for decades and are sturdy enough to support your pieces during both storage and styling.
Chin blocks are sold in a standard size. It’s best to order your canvas head in the same size as your own head, or slightly smaller.
Wig Storage
For storage at home, a specialized case is not necessary if you have an enclosed space out of direct sunlight to store your wig or facial hair. A closet or spare room with curtained windows is ideal. Wigs should be in a dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive dust, and drastic temperature fluctuations.
If you don’t have a closet or room, you can safely store your wig or facial hair on its canvas head or chin block in a wig storage case.
These cases are great wig storage options and are also suitable for travelling with your pieces. The cases are tall enough for your wig or wig and beard set to sit upright and they’re very sturdy.
Double-Sided Tape
The best adhesives for wigs and facial hair
There are many options for attaching your custom facial hair or attaching your wig’s lace front. They fall into two categories – double stick tapes and liquid adhesives. Each option has some benefits and some drawbacks. Neither is better, they’re simply different products. We encourage our clients to try out both tapes and liquid glues in order to find the best product for their skin, their pieces and the environment they’ll be using them in.
Custom Wig Company is very pleased to offer a wide selection of double stick tapes, in pre-cut strips. These tapes are available in two curated tape samplers. The samplers allow you to test all the tapes and pick the best one or ones.
Liquid Adhesives
We don’t sell liquid adhesives, but know many of our clients use theses two products with great success:
There are many other ‘entry-level’ brands of spirit gum, including Kryolan and Ben Nye. It’s important to know that basic spirit gum is a fairly limited glue. While it does work incredibly well for some people, many folks find that it doesn’t hold up long or it irritates their skin. Still, if you’re going to try a liquid glue, it makes sense to start with the basics. Of those, we prefer Mehron and feel it’s the most reliable.
Mastix is another very popular contact adhesive, and it’s very resistant to sweat and humidity. Many of our Santa clients swear by Telesis glues, especially for long days.

Please note that we are making general recommendations. You should consult the product labels and instructions for anything you use and ensure it’s suitable for your skin and situation. We are not medical professionals and are providing information and links only as a starting point.
Any product we recommend is considered safe to use with any Custom Wig Company produced wig, beard or item of facial hair, unless otherwise specified. Be sure to clean your pieces after every glue application. We do not recommend using any oil-based ‘removers’ directly on our pieces – the oils can damage the lace and hair. We recommend cleaning any of our lace pieces with 91% rubbing alcohol.
