Custom Wig Company, an established business in Louisville, KY, seeks an apprentice wig builder. The team at CWC produces handmade, custom wigs and facial hair for Santa, historical reenactors and interpreters, cosplayers and costumers.
This is a paid teaching position that is intended to train a new wig maker for a future role in the company. Long-term work as an Associate Builder will be available to the apprentice who successfully develops and demonstrates consistent, excellent building skills.
The primary goal of our apprentice position is to teach the next member of our team. To that end, we are working to get them ready for a full-time job as a wig artisan.
The biggest quality we look for in new apprentices is enthusiasm, patience and a high tolerance for repetitive work. While it is nice if they have some experience with wigs, whether styling or building, it is not essential.
Our studio is on the third floor of a historical building without an elevator, so the ability to climb three flights of stairs is necessary. The apprentice should also be able to lift 25 pounds. The duties of the apprentice rely heavily on repetitive hand motions and the ability to see and hear.
The apprentice should have some experience using Google Docs and Google Sheets.
The apprenticeship is based in Louisville, KY.
To be considered, please submit a resume with references and link to online portfolio or website (if you have one) to firstname.lastname@example.org Due to the high volume of inquiries, individual responses may not be possible. Custom Wig Company is an equal opportunity employer.
We also have an annual apprentice position for someone who wishes to learn wig building in preparation for enrolling in grad school or pursuing a career in theatre/entertainment industry. Unlike the standard apprenticeship, this is a short-term position anywhere between 9 and 12 months in duration. It’s structured and compensated like the standard apprenticeship.
